Day 5 – ISC 2016 Summary

Day 5 brings about another couple of big scalps. Teams removed from the tournament includes Bloomington Stix, Perligro Gremlins, Kitchener Cubs and Elmira Expos. Again a reminder we’re following the top 4 seeds along with the Aussies at the ISC’s! It’s shaping to be a great couple of days for Fastpitch Softball.

The Peligro Gremlins featured Jeremy Manley on the hill and the Gremlins contained Kegal to just four hits, but it was a couple of walks and hits in the 3rd innings that did the damage. Kegal put two on the board and Kegal pitcher Brady Woods in the pitching rubber was just too good for the Gremlins line-up posting 17 of the 21 outs as strike outs. Brady gave up more walks than the Gremlins however it was enough to seal the no hitter/shutout.

Bloominton Stix, who’ve featured numerous Aussies over the last few years, weren’t able to get over the line against the Kingston Axeman. The Stix registered 7 runs and out hit their opponents with 9 hits went down 8-7. The hits came from Julian Jemmott, Solorzano, Tyron Bartorillo, John Zambrano and Needham. Dual hits to Rogelio Sequera and Rony Machica and a homerun to Aussie Ryan Merriman.

Top seeds the Hill United Chiefs showed they were a step above the Circle Tap Dukes winning 10-0. Both teams featured a number of Aussies with Adam Folkard the winner pitcher, throwing 5 innings for 11 strikeouts and giving up just the one hit. Joel Goodall the Victorian wasn’t able to contain the Chiefs hitting line-up giving up 8 hits. The game featured 6 Aussies with Sinclair playing shortstop and leading off for the Dukes. Nick Shailes added to his tally with a homerun, James Todhunter registered two hits. Joel Southam was the final Aussie playing second base for the Chiefs.

The last game for the day is still being played between the A1 Bombers and the Scarborough Force. The game is currently tied at 3 a piece with Don Scott replacing Juan Potolicchio on the hill vsing Devon McCullough. This is the 4 v 5 seed battle and is shaping as the game of the Day!

Edit – The 5th seed Scarborough force have gotten over the line against the A1 Bombers! It was Don Scott coming in to close out the game, throwing 4 innings throwing just over half a perfect game! Bruno Motroni was the star of the day with 3 hits for the day with Raemaki, Hale, Urbaneja all putting the pressure on with safe hits. Kronk the only Aussie in this game was brought in after a homerun to number nine hitter Gilbert Saenz! Both starting pitchers Potolicchio and McCullough were removed part way through the game with dominated strike out performances averaging over 2 an innings.

Tomorrow we’ll see Gators take on the Gremlins and Hill United will play the winner on this game tonight.
