Toronto Gators 2016 ISC Champions

Day 8 – ISC 2016 – Fastpitch Softball Summary

Playoff day! The day starts with the BC As taking on the New York Gremlins. It was a tight game with the Gremlins running out the eventual winners 2-0 and required 11 innings to secure a result. Andrew Kirkpatrick and Roman Godoy combined to shut out the As with 19 strikeouts over 11 innings! Flores stared for the Gremlins with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Jeff Goolagong and Zenon Winter the Aussie partners in crime both added a hit to their tally as they progressed to the battle for third place.

It was going to be tough for the Gremlins Bullpen to back up an 11 innings game whilst taking on the 3 time defending champions the Hill United Chiefs. It took the full 7 innings to find a result and the Aussie hitters took full advantage of facing familiar pitching taking 7 of the 13 hits of the day. Nick Shailes showed why he’s rated the best in the world with 3 hits including 2 RBI’s and a homerun. Joel Southam, Zenon Winters, Jeff Goolagong and Andrew Kirkpatrick all secured a hit a piece. The eventual result 5-4 meant the Chiefs would get another crack at the Gators.
The Gators drew early blood in the final, as the Chiefs went with an interesting strategy, which was seeming to pay off. Hill United started with their second string options in Pablo Migliavacca and then Ryan French. French was part way through the 4th innings when Ben Enoka scored two runs off of his single. From there Adam Folkard was handed the pill however the Gators placed another run on the board with Brad Rona knocking one over the fence in the 5th. Tensions rose between the two sides and it appeared this changed momentum in Hill United’s favour. Nick Shailes, Mark Johnson and James Todhunter all put shots over during the 6th and 7th innings and tied up the ball game! It wasn’t enough in the end when a couple of runners on base allowed the hero Shane Boland to come to the plate. Boland fired a three run shot to secure a massive win for the Toronto Gators, running out winners 6-3.

Cleary kept the Chiefs to just 5 hits as his team mates whacked 12 hits. Ben Enoka leading the way going 4 for 4 on the night with 2 RBI’s. Laulu, Horn, Boland and Johnson all registered 2 hits a piece with further hits to Rona, and Thomas Enoka.
Great effort to all those that participated in the season and ISC’s this year. A massive congratulations to the Toronto Gators on their impressive win and end to the year. Thanks to the broadcasters and statisticians that kept those that weren’t fortunate enough to attend the tournament. Safe travels and we look forward to see how next years season shapes out.
